Activity 1: AP Calculus AB Blog

For activity one, visit the world-renowned AP Calculus AB blog. This blog corresponds to a high school Calculus class where students post class reflections daily that discuss what happened in class that day. It also serves as a social forum for students to share their thoughts and feelings about class topics. They post course notes daily in their own handwriting. Your job is to find out how they do that, whether it requires you send them a message or need to do a little web research. Be prepared to not only report on how they post their notes, but also come to class prepared to discuss the possibilities of our class creating something similar to their online blog.

Activity 2: Calculus Images

For activity 2, visit Flickr and pick a Calculus image that strikes you for some reason or another. Once you have found a photo that interests you, write a two paragraph reflection on this photo's implications both personally and in the classroom. What did the photographer have in mind when creating it? What does it mean in the grand scheme of our Calculus course? What does it mean to you? Would it have the same meaning to another viewer? Be prepared to turn in your typed reflection in class tomorrow.

Activity 3: Video Project

For activity three, visit this You Tube video where students create a unique Calculus video for class. Think of a topic from this semester that sticks in your mind and that can be displayed visually. Select a group of classmates and create your own video explaining/demonstrating a concept from this semester's class topics.

Activity 4: Online Chat

For activity four, log into our online MOODLE course. Once you are in the course, enter the online chat labeled "Chapter 5 Test". We are going to conduct a chat on 2/18/2008 at 8:00 PM to go over any last minute test questions you may have. Come prepared with specific problem questions and also be prepared to help fellow classmates through their areas of difficulty.

Activity 5: Calculus Encyclopedia

For activity 5, visit the High Beam Online Encyclopedia and view the encyclopedia entry for Calculus. After reading the entry, reflect upon the connection between differential and integral Calculus. Be prepared to explain the difference, in your own words, in class tomorrow.

Activity 6: AP Central

For activity six, visit AP Central, create a user name and password, then explore the ins and outs of the AP test you will be taking in May. Be sure to explore the rules of the test, what you will need to take the test, how the test is formatted, the length of the test, and the topics that are covered. When you are finished, write a journal entry in your online journal located in our online MOODLE course. In your entry, include 5 things that you learned after visiting AP Central that you didn't know before.

Technology Content Standards: Grade 12, Standard 5, Benchmark B, "manage"
Strand 8. Archive the final product in a format that will be accessible in the
future.
Justification-Students are creating a reflective journal in their online MOODLE journal that will be accessible throughout the school year.

Activity 7: Graphics For the Calculus Classroom

For the seventh activity, visit the Graphics for the Calculus Classroom applet page and view the "Zooming in on the tangent line" demonstration. Describe how this applet illustrates the Linearization method we learned about in class and how the Linearization formula learned in class is demonstrated by this applet. Record your thoughts in the journal section of our online MOODLE classroom.
